| partners | | Wow, did the Superstition present a treat today. Going in from First Water Trailhead, the good flow of first water creek gives a preview of things to come. Second Water Trail is in good shape and we quickly get through Garden Valley. Boulder Canyon and LaBarge canyon were roaring with water. There are easily sections that are 7-8 feet deep and the flow is incredible. Luckily it has diminished enough that crossing is possible, but expect to get wet feet.
All the water slowed us down a bit, as there was no walking in the creek today. We had to bushwhack around and plan creek crossings carefully due to the volume of water. I also found Chuck Aylor's old abode, something I had missed previously. I still missed that Spanish missionary site...
The Box area was awesome with major waterfalls encountered in the usual pools area.
Due to the fact that some had to get back early, we cut off the rest of the creek and took the Battleship saddle trail over to Boulder Canyon and returned via Second Water which made for a short day. Boulder Canyon was also mighty impressive, but since it is relatively flat, there was less white water.
Fantastic hike, you have to get out there and see it for yourself to believe it. |
