Even though the government shut down is over and parking lot should have been open - it was not. Someone I spoke to had called forest service, and they said lot will be open tomorrow. So we parked on the road in the tow zone. The conversation that we had about getting towed, etc. was well understood by almost 5 year old, and she was in a panic about breaking laws and our car being "pulled" off somewhere and us stranded in Sedona. She is a good citizen and a rule follower. Hard to break rules in front of her, but good for her to understand a little work around is sometimes necessary. She asked if Santa would find out what we had done! That gave me a chuckle. : rein :

Trail was crowded as always but less than weekend volume. Caroline and George wore their rain boots which was best decision I've made in a while. George mostly rode in the Kelty, but Caroline breezed across all the crossings and enjoyed keeping track of how many we had done and how many were left, etc.

Leaves are great right now :FG: and I love seeing all the red. Reminds me of north Georgia where I grew up (sort of). I have to get my Fall "fix" every year and get out of the desert to remind me of that feeling and smell and sensation of Fall.

We had a nice picnic and took pictures along the way of the kids in their Halloween outfits from their grandmother. Normally they don't have on precious outfits for hiking, but I knew the leaves would be pretty and we don't get many photo ops like that in Scottsdale.
