As anticipated the parking lot was full but our drivers found spots to park along the road and we commenced hiking about 10:30ish. It was a beautiful sunny day with a glorious blue sky. I was pleasantly supised to find a good deal of color remained. Though it was past its peak there still plenty of camera worthy shots available. There were also some brilliant reds up on the canyon walls. Being the slowest of the group as usual I only made it probably about a mile and a half before I heard the call on the radio for the ones who had gone on ahead to turn around. This was due to my slowness and my stopping to take a lot of pictures! Anyway little by little we all got back to the parking lot some having made it to the 3.3 mile mark. The day was topped our by our regular stop at Crusty's Pizza in Camp Verde. Next year the hike will be a week or two earlier and I hope we can get on the trail a little earlier. |
