| no partners | | Parking at the lot on 35th Avenue just north of the Adobe Dam at 7 am , I headed west along the faint trail towards 1905'. The rain had washed everything, and the fragrance of Creosote put a smile on my face. I got to the pinnacle just east of and below the summit for the sunrise  and then bopped up the only tricky part of the scramble to the top.
I found the inscription from 1917 I had seen about 10 years ago at the summit (too young to be a petroglyph, to old to be graffiti - I think it's defined as an artifact, being older than 50 years).
I followed the ridge north to bag the other two summits that make up the ridge, expecting the clouds and rain to the north to come on down, but they never did. From there I headed down, stopping by the water storage runoff, only to find it dry for the first time. The trees in the small riparian area were also dead, so my guess is that it hasn't flowed in a while.
I checked out the dam spillway, and then headed across the flood plain to the RC park, enjoying the fact that basically everyone flies electric now as opposed to those noisy gas planes. 
I was back at my truck by 10 am, loving the fact that home was just a few blocks away. |
