Having done the big loop last week, I was able to make a loop out of what was left, arriving at the Ridgeback Overlook at dawn.

The east end of this preserve has to be the quietest in north Phoenix, with almost no houses in sight the entire way. Both times I had the trailhead to myself before first light on a Saturday, coming back to 30+ cars - but it still had the feel of untouched desert. Every major Sonoran flora is on this little loop, so it would make a great intro for out-of-towners. For an easy hike close to home, this one's hard to beat.
