| no partners | | The plan was to hike from the Seven Springs trailhead to the Spur Cross trailhead using Trail #4. Planned on leaving the Jeep at Spur Cross and getting a ride out to Seven Springs. At the last minute my ride cancelled on me. So I just did the northern half and doubled back. Hate when a good plan falls apart, but it was still a great hike.
Stopped in Cave Creek for breakfast. Was still cool when I hit the trailhead. It has been a while since I've hiked this part of #4, but I remembered it as a pretty hike. Certainly was today. Took my time and explored along the creek, looked for future backpacking camp sites, and enjoyed the morning. Didn't see or hear a soul on the way out.
Had a nice lunch in the shade courtesy of a little oasis at a wash crossing. Turned back a half mile later at the fence west of the end of Skull Mesa. The Knifeback looked so close. Another day (soon).
Began to bump into quite a few hikers once I was within 3 miles of the trailhead. Trail #4 was popular with the afternoon crowd.
The creek is flowing well all along this section with plenty of good water. Right now the flow stops about 2.3 miles from the Spur Cross trailhead.
Was a good day on a good trail. Hard to ask for anything more than that. |
