| no partners | | On Friday, Dec 29, I led a party of five, counting myself, from the Cave Creek Trailhead to the Spur Cross Trailhead.
After doing this one, I now realize why I don't do more hikes requiring a shuttle - there's a lot of driving involved. Our hiking time was around six and a half hours and my driving time was over four and a half hours. Just driving from Spur Cross to Cave Creek takes about an hour - and you (or someone in your party) has to do it twice.
But, driving aside, it's a great hike.
We chose to follow Cave Creek #4, then hiked Road 48 which eventually turned into the Spur Cross Trail.
There were a number of creek crossings - all of the early ones crossed water. Rock / boulder hopping got us across without getting or feet wet - at least not much.
I loaded the official route for this hike onto my GPS watch. We never really needed it though as the trail is easy to follow the entire way. The distance is accurate too - I ended up with 12.55 miles on my watch. The AEG is a bit puzzling though; I ended up with only 1037 feet on my Suunto Ambit 3.
