Well, I hiked out to the plane crash. It was easier than I thought it was going to be. There wasn't that much bushwhacking. The way back, was a bit more difficult. Damn Cholla fields! After the plane crash, I hiked to the tallest area South-West of the wreckage. A quick 450ft gain. I found a spot to relax for a few minutes, with great views of Lake Pleasant. I then started back toward Black Mountain. Damn Cholla Fields! Black Mountain was a quick 500ft gain. I then hiked along the ridge. I stumbled on a well hid registry. This registry only had 3 visitors since 2010. I built up the cairn, to help others find it. The problem is, all the rocks are piled up on the ridge. Its very hard to spot. The registry for Black Mountain, is about 15ft North of the " The Lord's here" sign, and maybe 20-25ft north of Teds Petroglyph. I then started hiking down the ridge of Black Mountain. I noticed a guy parked out in the desert. Fearing that this guy was going to fire some rounds off, and didnt see me, I altered my course. 5 minutes later, gunshots and more gun shots. You loose a quick 700ft in elevation here. I then hiked to a small hill, then to my truck. Damn Cholla fields!
Great weather for a desert hike in March. There was a constant wind today. Depending on your route, I did a lot of rock hopping/climbing. Cholla fields everywhere, and the cacti are starting to bloom. |
