| no partners | | I woke up before work and decided to hit 9L Peak today. To this day, I'm still not sure why I chose 9L Peak, but I did. Seeing that 9L Peak is the Hayden Butte of Mesa, I saw that this wasn't going to take too long, so I did some herping around the base of the mountain and caught 2 whiptails before they could fully get energized by the sun. It actually looks like a decent place to look for snakes, but I didn't see any. Perhaps next time.
I photographed a few saguaro cacti in bloom in the parking area, and off I went. I was in full peak bagging mode and was keeping a good solid pace. I passed a girl going up the hill at the 0.25 mark. She said, "hi" to me, but I ignored her, determined not to be distracted from my pace. At the 0.35 mark, she ended up passing me. At this time, I decided to say, "hi" to her. She ignored me and kept going. That was rude of her.
At the top, I saw the effects of urban sprawl and Usery Mountain. I saw dozens of whiptails licking the ground and following the pheromone trails left by their female counterparts and doing some courtship rituals. I thought that catching them would spoil their moods, so I decided to let them do their thing.
At the end, I stopped by CVS to get some snacks. I told the cashier that I just hiked 9L Peak and asked if they offer discounts for hiking 9L Peak. She said, "no." |
