| no partners | | Met up with some friends from out of town for lunch in Apache Junction. On the way there, I went by this very familiar bump next to the road and thought, hmmm. Might be a good one to test the knee on a little more downhill. So after lunch, on the way home, I decided to go for it, even though I was just in tennis shoes. Haven't really done much uphill in the last year either and even with all the PT I'd been doing, I could feel it. The downhill was a pleasant surprise. While I could feel it, there was no pain and very little discomfort. I certainly wasn't going all out on the downhill, but my knee seemed to loosen up as I went, and my confidence built up a little bit, so I was moving faster than I thought I would. Even though I'm not quite done with PT yet, and my knee is probably only about 85% or so, it's the confidence that will ultimately be the biggest troublemaker. Will be looking to do at least a couple more hikes this next week, including a real peak and then make the ultimate decision about the New Year's Day Hike. Stay tuned. |
