Okay so normally my triplogs are short this one will be a little longer as it has some backstory leading up to this hike of Mt Peeley.

In June I did a presentation for Summits on the Air for the Superstition Amateur Radio Club. While giving the presentation charlieaz and I discovered we were Hazers. My presentation on SOTA peaked his interest and we began e-mailing about equipment and activations. During this period Hank got a PM from tkknc about an antenna in one of Hanks photos which he forwarded to me. This also started more e-mailing. This week we decided a group activation was in order I suggested Peeley as it was close to town has never been activated and was on my short list to get on the air.

Plan in place we all met at the designated Haz rally point the Wendy's in Fountain Hills squeezed into my Jeep and headed out to Peeley. On the way up we all became more acquainted with each other and before we knew it the TH was in view. One other vehicle was at the TH and the occupants of that vehicle would make this adventure a little more special later on.

After paying our respects in observance of the GPSjoe sign we started up the trail it was muggy but tolerable. The trail was nice and easy to follow. On the way we saw the occupants we guessed of the truck higher up on the trail and figured we would run into them at the summit.

After completing the off trail portion we did in fact run into the couple on the summit enjoying the view and talking. I set up my HF gear and showed Charlie and Ken how it all played with each other while Hank did some picture exploring. We all made VHF contacts so the peak that went from no activations had 4 in a few min. Now while I was getting started on HF CW the male of the couple approached Ken and asked him in secret if he could snap some pictures with his camera phone as he was about to ask his girlfriend to marry him. Ken and Hank got the pics for them and the newly engaged couple received congratulations from our group. So what I am figuring was planned as a private moment got changed on the fly to a moment that might not have been caught on camera otherwise.

Charlie and I went back to working HF and continued working the bands till everyone that wanted to work Mt Peeley was taken care of.

Now a Thunderstorm was moving in and we decided it was time to get off the peak. We made good time to the jeep and headed back to town. At the Haz rally point we all had Wendy's and called it a day.
