The first 1.2 miles the elevation gain was about 2200 feet. According to the tonto map, this hike is about 7.4 miles, so I went further an additional mile and found a small stream. To get to the stream you need to pass two dry washes (the first wash is the 3 mile mark as noted in trail description). There were a few backpackers spending the weekend. The views are breathtaking. The hike back up was rough and tough on the dogs paws, there were many jaggered, loose rocks and sand. One of my dogs lost one of his paw pad. After a trip to the emergency room, he will be able to start hiking in a week. |
