| no partners | | I don't even know how to describe this experience... My first technical canyon, and my first time ever rappelling! With no fear of heights, and a familiarity with most of the gear from climbing, I was able to just sat back and enjoy the rappels of 90, 60, 45 (+ bonus 35), and 30 feet. The biggest rappel came first, but the most fun was the third because of its setting in a sculpted slot. This canyon was so much fun .
There were also plenty of downclimbs in the canyon that varied in difficulty, but nothing beyond what any of us was comfortably capable of. This is where my long legs come in very handy .
Webbing on all anchors was recently replaced, with not even slight fraying.
From what I read, normal time is 4-6 hours, but with 2 beginners on the trip (and a surprise stop for freshly-made trail pies ), it was no shock that it took us longer than that. The experienced canyoneer in our group was very patient and took time to explain each and every anchor and show us several different rope set-ups for some of the rappels. Last bit of the hike out was in the dark - we met 2 groups of guys hiking down toward the hotsprings with more beer than anything else. |
