I hiked up the north side of the creek for awhile, and as the canyon narrowed crossed over to the south and picked up the upper canyon trail. It later crossed back to the north side and began to ascend through a series of switchbacks that were fairly steep for a while. The trail was in excellent shape. The last portion of the trail moves through the wash/creek and past two distinct campground areas. There were sufficient cairns to find the trail eventually coming to a short steep series of switchbacks to Romero Pass. The day I hiked was after several days of rain, and the grass along the upper trail was lush, soaking my pants. Waterproof Lowa boots were fine. Returned the same path and grabbed a waypoint where I crossed creek just above Romero Pools to make it easier to find next time. Previous posts said there was a cairn marking the crossing that I likely missed. |
