| partners | | Stole some dogs and headed for a nice trip on the rim.
The highlight of the day was discovering that the iPhone now works as a GPS even in Airplane Mode. I hope that's a permanent fix and not a temporary glitch.
Fred Haught Canyon upstream from the cabin isn't the prettiest I've seen up there, but there was still plenty of water, and it wasn't too tough to get through. Just a couple of deadfall areas that took some getting around.
We opted to skip a planned trip over to Bear Canyon and will do that another time. Almost no traffic on the roads up there this weekend, so the short 95/300 walk to get back to Col.D was relatively nice.
Got a little sprinkle of rain on our way down.

eTrex gave me 13.29miles / 1498 / 1972 for elevations. Kyle's Garmin was even less. But looking at the tracks on satellite, HAZ Tracks was undisputedly the more accurate track. eTrex for some reason was always 20-40 feet to the right of where I hiked. Perhaps because it was on my right hip pocket? But then iPhone was on my left hip pocket, and it was not left of where it should be! eTrex had 4% fewer points, and seemed to "smooth" some spots out. But when hiking in a canyon the more detailed HAZ Tracks was truly a more accurate representation of where I had hiked. All food for thought. |
