The trail follows a narrow ledge cut out of the cliff face in some areas and has a chain bolted to the cliff wall along some of these ledges to hang on to. Not a trail for people with severe fear of heights so my wife opted out of this hike and took the shuttle down to the lodge to do some exploring down there. The views of the canyon from this trail as it climbs up the cliff are awesome and worth the effort. The maintained trail ends at some small pools in the bottom of the hidden canyon but you can continue off trail up this small canyon if you are so inclined. Cousin Mark and his wife started out with me on this hike but they turned back when Mark's fear of heights started to get to him on a slippery section of trail along a narrow ledge in the cliff face. I continued on to the end of the maintained trail then turned back to meet them at the shuttle stop below. They weren't there and it was a couple hours before we all got back together down at the Zion Lodge. By then it was getting late and we didn't have time to do another trail. |
