| no partners | | Flying into our base I saw what looked like a trail through the swamp to the beach. Also saw a flock of pink spoonbills. I decided after timing out in flight hours by 3 o'clock to try to get a better look. Worst hiking mistake of my life besides trying to freeze my toes off. Got into the rancid swampy water and thorny thick brush only to feel sharp stinging and look down to see my legs covered in fire ants. Got to a place where I could work on removing them only to be interecepted by Mosquitos biting gnats and deer flies made it to the muddy beach type area and it was low tide and I didn't feel like wading in the nasty mud with the open wounds. Saw a couple of large dead fish. Lots of trash. Possibly the ugliest coastline I've ever seen. After several failed attempts to get back to the road while continuing to be attacked. I sprinted back to where I came in and got the Pumpkin out of there. BTW when I took my shirt off my back looked just like my legs. I'm pretty sure I'll come down with Malaria and West Nile. The bug spray I used which has always worked well around the base was completely inneffective. I can't wait to get home! |
