So we came up with Plan B using the Todd Martin Grand Canyoneering book and were on our way quickly! We wanted to try a longer packraft so we modified it slightly.
5 Mile Wash is near the Navajo Bridge in Marble Canyon. 5-Mile had 3 rappels, one which was off knot and rock chocks! Once off rappel we unpacked our rafts and floated about 3 miles on the Colorado. We took one of the exits used for the Badger Canyon loops. This included a mile long traverse over car sized boulders followed by a climb through the Coconino limestone layer with some short but exposed climbing sections one of which was at least 5.x and a few of us roped up for safety.
We were really excited have completed such a trip! For most of us it was our inaugural trip on the Colorado River with a packraft!
Note: hiking/canyoneering mileage was 6.5 miles and rafting was 3.25 miles. |
