| no partners | | Went for a little off-trail hike while the youngster and I were scouting out campsites for a group trip next week. From FR139C we started out west and down into the canyon where Merritt and Maverick come together and explored down creek a couple miles before exiting the canyon and walking the road back to the vehicle. We climbed a few hills while down in the canyon so we could check out some small caves. Stopped for a snack next to the creek and took a dip in two of the deeper pools. There was water flowing the entire length of our hike, likely due to recent rain. The vegetation was lush and mossy. Once back on FR139C we were greeted by 2 black labs (and then their owners) who finished out the road walk with us. They were bow hunters also scouting out the area. Temps remained cool in the low 60s, great little hike. |
