1st trip
Plans fell through with some friends from the valley who wanted to see Horton Spring for the first time. I decided to follow through alone. Derrick TH was busy as the start but the trails were surprisingly empty for a Saturday. I added Promontory Trail because why not? Did a little exploring on top of Promontory Butte, finding one panoramic view after another until settling on a lunch spot and enjoying the breeze before heading back down Promontory Trail. Much more fun hiking up than down. Quite a few nice campsites along the edge of the Butte. Hustled my way on to Horton Spring and had it all to myself. Downed a quick liter of water and headed on downstream to the 'rock slide' area where my inner child took over and I slid into the pool at the end. Water was nice and cold as usual. Even the hike down creek to the parking lot was eerily quiet for a weekend (especially with it being so busy in Payson for the rodeo) but a pleasant surprise.
