What an amazing area with the incredible views from mountains that soar straight from the sea. It won't be very long until I'm back in Big Sur.
I started at the small dirt parking lot just below the Ventana Inn, and thought that it would be cool to stay at this nice resort and do some hiking later in the spring. Then I discovered that a night here runs about $850.00 per night so future plans will probably focus on tent-based living. The first mile is pretty cool because of the views and redwoods despite the houses. Most of the houses look like they're straight out of Sunset Magazine.
The views got better the higher I went. I wish I could've gotten better pictures to the west, but the late afternoon sun usually makes that a futile endeavor. I reached the upper Terrace Creek trail head then continued for about another 3/4 mile to an open ridge top where I took a break for a little snack. I was blessed with great weather and a dearth of fellow travelers.
I can't wait to go back. |
