After an hour putting it together I wasn't super excited as the majority is a road walk. Bruce wanted to give it a go and added Bradshaw grave into the mix. Perfect weather all day with island breezes made this hike pretty good. We saw a lot of semi interesting little sites along the way.
The hike was not a stroll being sandy, gravel or rocks with only a few smooth surface stretches. Mountain scenery is quite nice throughout the entire loop.
Our lunch spot took in one of the many open rock structures. Perched over a canyon we pondered an alcove. Soon five guys on a quad-tour disappeared into the now obvious mine. After ten plus minutes we figured it must be deep. We headed down and said hello as they were leaving.
One thing was crystal clear at the entrance. It stank, worse than Bruce! Not sure if it was sulfur or what but this was definitely a shirt over the face journey. The ground was a thick powdery substance like insulation or volcano ash. We didn't stay more than a few minutes. The smell lingered a few miles...
A trickle of water in the Rockhouse area.
Glad we did this one. The backroad tour we've done twice and hopefully again when the peaches ripen up late summer is still my favorite. |
