| partners | | | Having hiked Telescope Peak in Death Valley the previous day we wanted to hike something short and on the way back to Phoenix. We picked this 4 mile round trip hike just outside of Las Vegas. We didn't research much other than summitpost trail description. The beginning of the hike went just as described until about 3/4 mile in when the trail/old road turned the wrong direction. We looked around for a continuing trail or route and ventured off in several different directions trying to find any signs. We could see the Mountain Spring Peak above just no discernable trail to get there. After wasting 45 minutes we decided to call it quits with still 5 hour drive back to Phoenix. Afterwards I looked at the GPS track from summipost.org and we were initially right on the track. Only problem is no trail...had we more time definitely would have kept going despite the sudo off trail route. The summit has views of Las Vegas and Red Rock Canyon area which is adjacent to the peak. |
