Boundary Peak, high point of Nevada was the goal for today. We drove half way the night before and then arrived at the Boundary Peak TH about 10am. Started from Trail Canyon TH about 8800 feet, I was surprised by the amount of water in Trail Canyon in the first mile and a half and all of the greenery.

The trail starts up Trail Canyon following the creek for about 3 miles before it reaches a saddle. The Queen Mine route comes in at the saddle and from there both routes share the same path to the summit. We took a short break at the saddle and ran into 4 other people also taking a break.

The saddle is at about 10,600 so from there the route is very steep with about 2500 feet to go in the next 2.3 miles. We played leap frog with a couple until reaching the ridge line. An Australian guy was headed down and he warned us to stay on the ridge. At the ridge line, the hiking became crawling on all fours and I already stopped using the advice to stay high. I was along the side and all the boulders felt unsteady. The couple we were "with" turned around. At .4 miles from the top, I tapped out. I'll use the time crunch as my good excuse to be a quitter. We had a turn around time and I wanted to make sure Karl got up without waiting on me.

Karl told me to head down the alternate way. The route takes you down a side canyon before linking back up with Trail Canyon and completing the small loop. On the way up, I was on the right hand side of the ridge, I came down on the left side, thinking it would be easier to find the alternate trail down. Instead, I got snowed out and ended up doing the crab walk down the gravel for like a mile. I waited for Karl near the bottom, Karl was on the correct route and I watched him bound easily down the trail.
