| no partners | | We only had a few hours for a short hike on our way from Salem to Hood River. This hike along the Timberline Trail from Timberline Lodge to White River worked perfectly into our timeframe. We parked at the lodge and then begin walking uphill towards the summit, for a few hundred meters. Once we hit the Timberline Trail (which circumnavigates the entire treeline of Mt. Hood), we headed east for 2.25 miles to the White River crossing. This section of the Timberline Trail is shared by the Pacific Crest Trail. We met a couple SOBO through-hikers!
The trail itself is largely comprised of volcanic sand. The views of the peak and the surrounding wilderness area were extensive and beautiful. This was only my second time hiking in this area, but it's one of my favorite hikes in northern Oregon. Oh, and walking through White River was one of the coldest moments of my life  
Stopped at Trillium Lake on the way out (photo posted in album) and then later that night, hit up Everybody's Brewing! on the Washington side of the Columbia River. Sunset views from the deck of the brewery was a great way to finish off our day! |
