| no partners | | With the frequent rains in this part of the state, water levels have been higher than normal in the rivers and lakes so my Son-in-law (Scott) invited me to a Kayak trip down the Cannon River in Southeastern Minnesota. This river is popular with the canoe and tubing crowds so we got an early start to avoid the rowdy bunches and enjoy the peace and solitude of the trip.
Good plans, the river was high, fast and even kinda warm with very little wind to contend with and best of all we only saw four others enjoying the same early quiet. We ran into short stretches of "quick" water, but not challenging enough to raise the excitement levels but we also had only a couple of times where we dragged rocks so it was an enjoyable couple of hours. We only saw one Faun along the way but we spooked an Eagle several times as we silently paddled our way down the river.
As we approached our exit beach, we observed about 30 tubers getting out of buses and loading their tubes, a very noisy group and more buses lined up behind them  We loaded our kayak's and headed for Cannon Falls for an early lunch and a couple of cold beers to celebrate a great morning  |
