| partners | | Met up with the Mazatzal Assault Crew for another round of trail work on the AZT.
Slept at the Barnhardt TH Friday night, hiked in via Y-Bar Saturday morning with my buddy Alex. We finally got to see the rest of Y-Bar trail. Interesting on some parts, annoying on others...
The crew continued where they last left off, clearing from Bear Spring towards Y-Bar, and some work from Bear Spring back towards Peeley. Another (smaller) crew was based out of the Peeley TH and was working towards Bear Spring.
Hiked out with Alex and Nick via Barnhardt on Sunday morning. Only a single nasty section of overgrowth between Y-Bar and Barnhardt, which was going to be clipped by the others on their way out later in the day. A little depressing to see how much grew back near Barnhardt from the work we did last March (mostly grasses and low shrubs), but it is still much better than what we had.
The Divide is looking good compared to a year ago, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Sounds like a crew is being sent in to rework the tread sometime soon, which is needed badly in some areas. The worst of the brush clearing left to do is between Peeley and Bear Spring.
Felt great to get outside this weekend. The school thing is getting in the way of precious hiking time! |
