By the time we reached the base of the pyramid another cell was approaching. It was on us much faster than anticipated. We were soaking wet before hiking half way up the pyramid.
Once on top, we could see the Estrellas becoming obscured by the next cell moving through. Since we were already wet we didn't seriously consider trying to take shelter in the rocks someplace. The new cell hit very hard. The trail became a river. Water was running everywhere to the point you could hear and see it cascading down the steep slopes. Very cool!
We made the decision at the end of the Pyramid trail to keep going to Goat Hill. The rain was subsiding and we weren't at all cold. Besides being sloshy wet, it felt really nice out.
Goat Hill, as always, was nice. Great views from there. We made our way back the way we had come without further incident. The wash at the base of the pyramid was still running on our way back to the trailhead. Upon finishing the hike we could see another cell descending... Yikes!
Fun day. Thanks John! |
