I was leading this hike and thought we'd hike a couple miles and assess where we were at time-wise. Once we got half way to the creek I decided to push us all the way there. I told Minkis so he could mentally prepare. I know he wasn't looking forward to the hike out. This trail is beautiful, easy to follow and tread is great. It gets rocky here and there but nothing worth complaining about. The Sedona area is not usually on my radar. This hike today made me realize what I was missing. The red cliffs, pine, juniper and Cypress was quite a sight. Dogie Trail is pretty much a roller coaster through this beautiful terrain. We could hear water from distance. The creek below was raging as we made our way down to it. We explored up and down stream as far as we could. The crossing still isn't passable. It gets deep quick! After a snack we started the trek out. I kept us at a nice pace, without killing Minkis. Warm, sunny day on the trail but absolutely gorgeous all around. Laid eyes on some new territory. Trip was a success. Only saw 1 solo backpacker the entire 2 days. |
