| no partners | | | Looking for something close to Phoenix with decent views, I looked up Tom's Thumb and found Linda's route for the Thumb and East End Peak. This is new territory for me and Rosie. I knew it was a popular area but was surprised to see 100 cars in the parking lot. Several large groups (mostly Ohio State fans) clogged up the trail. Rosie got to meet several dogs. We split to the left and went up East End Peak first. This was the most fun of the entire hike. Following a use trail we made it to the top and hung for a while, letting the masses get their visit to the thumb before we would head over. It worked perfectly. By the time we made it down and over to the thumb, we had it to ourselves for a moment, then the next wave hit and we headed back to the TH. The weather was perfect and I like the views but I probably won't be in a hurry to come back. |
