There isn't a Jeep trail along SR 87 or SR 188 that I haven't explored extensively, but had yet to engage any substantial hikes, and I thought this looked inviting. It was 35°F when we started, but quickly warmed once out in the sun. Once we left the road, we hiked along what presents an an old horse trail, complete with a real live gate, basically out in the middle of nowhere. It's an easy area to get around, no acacia and no cholla, and the little trail made it that much easier. The only problem was moisture. Holy crap, it was wet (area may have received 3"- 4" rain a few days prior)! Creeks and washes were full up and fresh snowmelt on top made for slick and sometimes deep gooey mud. Because of that, we abbreviated our hike somewhat, but still had a rollicking good time. Very easy access along a paved road right to the traihead. Great views, great plants, highly recommended! This deserves way more than 10 triplogs. |
