Plenty of small hikes that don't gain much elevation, and plenty of really big hikes/backpacks, but not much in the way of the kind of intermediate distances/elevation gains that are within my comfort zone (if anyone here has yet to tackle Roger's Trough, call in sick tomorrow and do it!). So I was looking around my topo maps trying to find something, and came up with this loop. I then visited the hiking site here and discovered, not so surprisingly, that others had had the same notion. It was an OK hike and generally pleasant area, with one notable exception. The fairly brief bushwhack between the two trails was an absolute catclaw acacia ambush -- not fun. The drive in was also a bit challenging for my raised Jeep w/35s. Drive was OK, but I don't think I would have tried it w/33s. Lots of water out there, and the multiple crossings along the start of Peter's Trail were a bit tiresome, but it was all good once the trail starting gaining elevation. I'll be honest, I don't believe I'll be back for a repeat any time soon. |
