An old favorite drive. First stop was a walk around of the Arivaca unit of Buenos Aires NWR. Then on to La Gitana Cantina in Arivaca for a cold one. I had recently read about how bad the road was with lots of potholes, etc. The section from Amado to Arivaca was fine, but the complaints are valid for the paved section from Arivaca to the end of the pavement heading toward Ruby. Took a side trip over to Arivaca Lake and things there were looking good. As I neared Ruby there were quite a few Border Patrol vehicles parked along the road. Figured something was up, as there was a spotter plane above as well. When I got to Ruby to stop for photos, there were 2 BP agents on horse patrol by the gate. Talked briefly with them and they confirmed some sort of search was in progress. Continued on through the beautiful countryside. The road is well maintained these days due to all the border activity no doubt. I didn't quite make it to Pena Blanca Lake for a sunset photo, as it was almost dark. I hadn't eaten all day, so the stop for dinner at Wisdom's in Tumacacori was especially urgent. Enjoying one of their excellent margaritas made it even better! This place draws quite the crowd of seniors from Tubac and Green Valley on weekends, as they have live entertainment. It was packed and I enjoyed listening to the sounds. A real reminder of how old I am getting was when I saw an 80 year old dancing to a Warren Zevon song being performed.
