Day two of my trip. Stopped at Salton City to look around a bit, fuel the truck, and grab a Blimpie sandwich for the day's adventure. The drive from the Salton Sea to Borrego Springs on S-22 is always fun as you wind through the Borrego Badlands, but was especially so this time with all the green and flower action. :) I ventured a short ways in on Rockhouse Canyon Road, turning around at Clark Dry Lake. Lots of RV's and tent campers near the turnoff from S-22, a reminder of of how jammed packed the area was, even during the week. Next I drove in to Borrego Springs by way of Henderson Canyon and DiGiorgio Roads, as this is where most of the flower seekers go. It was mid afternoon but there were still plenty of folks out there.

Checked in to Hacienda del Sol for my two night stay and got settled in. This place is not the newest or most luxurious of choices in Borrego, but it features an interesting, nicely landscaped sprawling setting (complete with duplexes and casitas as well as the motel unit) that is literally right in the core of town. I like the Oasis better, but I had to work real hard just to find anything for this trip. I would not have made the trip had I not been able to score lodging in town, as the campground was booked solid and I didn't want to camp all four nights anyway. So once I was able to secure the lodging, I was able to build my trip around it. :D

The motel is right next store to the town market, so I was able to walk over in tne mornings for ice to restock the ice chest. Also, it is an easy walk across the street to the library to use the wifi (wifi is lacking in this town so the library with its San Diego County tie in is useful). Also many restaurants are easy walks, again perfect location. My favorite place to hang out in the evenings is Carmelita's. Decent food and a nice small bar area in addition to the usual dining area make it inviting. Always fun to talk with the folks there while enjoying beer or margaritas. :) Things were more stressful than usual in this little town, due to them being so slammed by the sheer numbers of flower crazed visitors, but still it was fun to be a part of it. :o
