When you are day hiking the Arizona Trail part of the challenge is to break it up into 10 mile sections that you can get to. Worked pretty good for all the trails til I got to the Mazatzal Mountains. I really liked this hike, crossing the desert in an area that probably isn't hiked that often except by Serious (maybe insane) hikers. Mountain view tank was quite an unexpected surprise when you climb the ladder and find it filled to the brim with water, complete with small fish. I continued on north of Mountain View Tank to a ridge overlooking Camp Grant Wash. On the return trip I hiked back to the starting point and about a half mile south to The ridge overlooking Tucson Wash, This is where the next days hike from Tiger Mine Road will end. The trails were easy to follow and fairly easy walking, there was no water along this route except at Mountain View tank. I have heard of people using a hose to siphon water out and make a shower. |
