Known as the birthplace of US sport climbing, it is one of the premier climbing destinations in the world, with about 1800 climbing routes up to 5.14c! (A route up Monkey Face --- the first 5.14c in the US)
There's also hiking, mountain biking, fishing, equestrian trails, slacklining, easier scrambling, and a climbers campground. We opted for a popular hiking loop that normally clocks in around 3.7 miles.
The geology here is stunningly beautiful. Watching climbers master their art as we muggles perfected our "approaches" was half of the fun on the day.
This was an unexpected highlight of our trip. I had no idea how cool this area is. It's worth the visit for sure. |
