A mix of hiking, horse, and mountain bike trails, this system features petroglyphs and the nation's second largest juniper tree with a circumference of over 18 feet! I opted for the Dragonfly loop this morning. The trailhead is just one mile north of SR 180 on Arenas Valley Road. There's a large parking area for cars and a separate area for horse trailers and a pit toilet in between. The Dragonfly trail is a lasso style loop. I followed it in a clockwise direction climbing gently through the high desert until finally dropping down and running along Twin Sisters Creek. You'll find the petroglyphs high on the boulders on the south side of the creek. There is a sign along the trail indicating you are in a sensitive area. The creek was flowing strong during my visit at the end of May. |
