So we got everything packed up and then headed up to Pine Springs TH for our mostly road walk back to 93A junction for the end of the AZ Trail part of the hike but then another 2 1/2 to camp.
Once again the road walking is not bad as it allows you to look around. I don't recall that we ran into any road traffic but the roads here are not very good either. You get an occasional glimpse at the mountains to the SE but mostly you're in and out of forest through and by some meadows.
The Wild Horse Tank had water in it but it was muddy. We did see some coyotes. (Oh ya, the day before I thot we saw pronghorns but I don't know if they are up here and if not, with the big white tails it would be deer. There was about 1/2 dozen quite a way in the distance.) Once again we passed lots of Iris, most of it not blooming.
It's hard to believe that in 22 miles of hiking, I didn't even use one camera battery . A lot of the scenery, though pretty, is the same. You have to look for the little things to entertain you on this one. And we didn't run into another soul. Last, hiking the road from just south of Gonzales Tank is a lot easier than driving it. We were pretty beat by the time we were done. Our next mission: food at Mormon Lake Lodge. We drove a different road back to the highway from Pine Springs on FR 135L to 124... talk about a nice area as you head west toward Old Lake Mary Road/FR 3 on FR124. There is some really nice camping not too far from the FR 3.

Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
