I have found if you hike into the tree farms, often the closed roads lead uphill quickly and there are some nice views on the tops of the hills. By the time the clear cut areas are a couple of years old they provide a lot of habitat for deer, bears, and other animals. However, the native oaks and other hardwood trees are in short supply, and I am sure the ecosystem is nothing like it once was. Under the trees it's very dark, since they're planted very close together.
On this particular day in June I saw a deer, and a very large bear poop. No, it did not contain bells or smell like pepper spray... |
