Oh when this bad boy is good, it is unbelievable. All the key factors were in place. Which is simply water everywhere with killer clouds on the horizon! Welcome to Second WATER! Sweet Nellie, sell the farm, we're going to Disney Superstition Land.
Standing on the edge of First Water Creek it was quickly apparent this wasn't going to be a dry foot adventure. Luckily the water lacked the feared brisk bite. Walking though Garden Valley I recalled knee high grasses and wildflowers years ago. Perhaps with all the winter rain the Garden will revive in a month or two!
Past Garden Valley heading down to Second Water Canyon the trail was a creek. At first it seemed cool but on the return it was more like canyoneering. I could hear the ROAR of Boulder Canyon Creek in the distance. What a sweet sight seeing the wide creek running in full glory. I continued on over to Paint Mine across the creek. Crossing was comparable to crossing the Verde at Hot Springs. Difference here being it's only waist deep for a five foot stretch but the force was incredible. Well, that and then you have all those gold nuggets rushing through the water. Something I really didn't factor in was being zapped of all energy. It didn't seem like that big of a deal but I seriously felt whooped later on. From the mine I headed south up a ridge for a short distance to get in some views. I could hear La Barge running but I couldn't see it. |
