| no partners | | While in the area I figured I would do the Spencer again this morning. I had hopes of doing it this time with Dominguez-Pass and come back via the Paria River Trail. I didn't have a track and Marble Canyon Lodge doesn't have their wifi up and running yet so I was going strictly off of memory. Up top the peaks and valleys all start to look the same. I just kept heading northwest across the top of the Echo Cliffs until I got to what I thought was the correct break. Down I went only to find that it was the wrong spot. I didn't know if I had over shot or under shot. I scaled the sides of the cliffs back and forth for a bit and came up empty. I decided to go back up top and re-evaluate.
It was about 11:30 and it was getting hot. Not knowing for sure where the Dominguez-Pass was I decided to head back the way I came and drop back down on the Spencer. If I had more time and more water I would have continued to search but today I was short on both. At the boat launch I looked at my watch, it read 105 degrees out. I hated not doing the hike as planned but this was the right choice.
Upon getting home I compared my track to the others for the dry loop and I see that I was about .45 of a mile short of the proper place to descend. I will go back soon and make a track for the full loop when it gets a little cooler. |
