| partners | | I try and hit Bassett at least once or twice a year. If it was closer it would be far more often. It is a great hike with or even without the Fall colors. Naturally it is even better when you are lucky enough to see the leaves changing. This year it didn't disappoint.
We have had a warm extended season so there is still a ton of green in the trees. At first glance it appeared that we were premature for the prime colors. This turned out to not be the case. As you make your way up the trail the patches of yellows, oranges, pinks and reds start to show their faces. Then once you turn and start gaining elevation the colors really start to kick in. If we don't have a cold spell I would say there is a solid week or two of good color viewing left. Past the spring box the tall aspens showed off their vivid yellow-gold leaves.
From here it was a little brushy up to the divide trail and then a nice cruise to the top of Bassett. I really enjoy the views from here and Chumley did a great job of identifying the various ranges from this perch.
The way back down was enjoyable as well with the sun shinning through the changing Maples. While Joe and I headed back to the car Chumley detoured down to the old plane crash site.
Another great hike to Bassett! |
