The river is barely a trickle right now so we decided to go a more direct route and cut out several miles of bushwhacking. We started at the Salt River Tubing drop off parking lot (don't forget your Tonto Pass!), and crossed the river. The water was 60 degrees and it was 70 outside so it really wasn't that cold. It was only ankle deep too! We changed into hiking boots and headed up! It took us about an hour and a half to make it to the arch. There are no trails and we are way out of shape so I think we did pretty good! Round trip to the arch and back to the car, only 2 miles!! From river level at 1392 elevation to the arch at about 1900+/- not a bad elevation gain either! The views are great and I highly recommend this hike!
For you geocachers, check out a geocache I hid in the area below the arch! Sunrise Arch/Salt River View! |
