The route was pretty much straight down from the end of the trail - it was steep, slidey, and rough and I don't particularly recommend it - but it goes, and is pretty straightforward. I took a couple good slide/falls which I was fortunate to escape with just some scratches and cuts. One hour after departing the trailhead I reached the creek and headed upstream in search of the Maples. A short way upstream I reached a small waterfall and a branch in the creek with some Maples to the left, so I climbed up and photographed them. At this point I fired up RouteScout and followed it and some animal paths to contour through the forest back downstream without having to lose elevation then climb back up where I descended ... it worked perfectly and I intersected my descent route about 2/3rds of the way up. One hour after beginning my descent, I was back at the top with just a short 10-15 minute stroll back to my car at Twilight. Saw four deer, many squirrels, no humans. |
