For whatever reason, after my last visit I think time tempered the magic that is this area...
I woke up at 4am and left Phoenix going far more quickly than I should in my newish Audi Q5--after trekking around in a Jeep Commander for 7 years, this thing is fun!--and arrived in about two hours flat. Even though it was only 6am or so, parking was filling up in different areas. While I knew the route to take, I found myself spending an hour or so just criss-crossing and bushwhacking around the area. The temperature was pleasant, the trees offered excellent shade, and there was just a lot of neat little nooks to take a look at. After some time I began the easy push towards the bridge. If you haven't been here, I'll just say this: It was AWESOME. It was such a rad experience... and while very crowded and I had to wait my turn for about 10 minutes to cross onto the bridge for photo opps, everyone was friendly and excited, just taking in the awe of the place.
VERY easy hike, and very well worth it, crowd or not. (Note: distance based on my wandering at the start) |
