This is an easy and very interesting hike, starting from the boaters' group camp at Picacho State Rec Area, on the California side of the Colorado River, north of Yuma. (Not to be confused with Picacho State Park in Arizona--no relation). After you've paddled a kayak or canoe all day it's nice to go for a walk. You can loop around and make it a longer hike (use the area's hiking brochure for info), but we opted out.

I have been to this state park many times, but always by boat! Never have driven in there. I always go on an annual MLK weekend trip with a group organized by Helen Howard of Desert River Outfitters in Bullhead. This year I left my car at Fisher's Landing, and realized the shuttle van and trailer were going back to the put-in at Walter's Camp, and that if I had planned it, I could have left my car at Fisher's, and caught a ride back to Walter's, and done the trip over again, solo. I plan to do that next year.
