| no partners | | This is a trail used a lot by mountain bikers and bouldering enthusiasts. We saw a lot of the latter, many walking with their "crash pads" strapped to their backs. If a group of them is walking in front of you on the trail it looks just like a line of small mattresses with legs! The small bluffs of the Kaibab Formation limestone (same formation as the top layer in Grand Canyon) are perfect for bouldering.
In my day, the term "crash pad" had a totally different meaning!
There is a nice little grove of aspens in the area. We didn't walk the loop trail, which includes Howard Draw, because we missed the turn for it.
