The drive in is pretty easy probably just high clearance. We towed a broken down Jeep to the highway and then turned onto La salle rd towards county road 595 which goes up to the towers, but was closed 2 miles from the top. La Salle and 595 were much rougher muddier in places and steeper in sections requiring low gears and a couple of spots full 6 wheel drive with all the diffs locked. First reasonably challenging off road for Yertle. I appreciated the hand throttle in a couple of places on the steeps where I had to stop to put it in low. All my other off-road vehicle have been auto matic, but the manual wasn’t too bad especially with the hand throttle. Turned around at the closed barricade around 10,500’ and stopped to let kids play and pull out the awning I just installed to make sure there was no surprises when we start camping season. Yertle will pretty much crawl up anything in 1st or 2nd low. I was really surprised as this road has some of the steepest roughest sections i’ve been on in Colorado. The ice and snow made things more difficult. Probably would have had difficulty with the Frontier. Looking forward to the summer camping and hiking season. Kids enjoyed trip. Nice family outing. |
