In looking at route on route scout I turned around just short of Long lake. Snow was getting deep and I turned around at my chosen time. I saw several things that looked like bodies of water all under snow so I figured there was not much to see. It appears official route turns around short of lake as well. Lake is much farther than 5 miles posted and no signs along the way. Trail was super muddy. Jogged most of the way down to get done before dark. Surprised by route scout stats. Only 2223’ elevation gain, 4166 AEG. Looking at uploaded route the 2700’ AEG seems more reasonable. Route about 1/2 mile long because apparently it kept running after I thought it saved and it gave me a mile update in truck. This trail is worth coming back during fall colors which would be awesome. lots of Aspen. Pretty happy to knock 11.5 with the AEG IN 3:25 since I could barely walk yesterday with a hip flexor that locked up and was made worse by the drive to Steamboat. It was still a little sore this morning, but apparently fixed itself with the family walk. Nice Hike! |
