| no partners | | Preston and I finally got out to see John in MO. Arrived late Wednesday night, crashed at John's, and hit the trail the next morning (after a couple supply/booze stops). We were on the trail by noon I think, and were pretty quickly rewarded with Mina Sauk Falls. Beautiful!! We descended quickly into a shallow valley and passed through Devil's Tollgate. Explored a little and then backtracked to a great little campsite right on the water. After w quick set-up, we quickly imbibed ourselves and philosophized the world's problems away. Dinner, a great night's sleep, and we were out to the car around lunchtime again. John took us to Johnson's Shut-Ins (basically a river getting boxed-in to a narrow canyon) and then back to St. Louis for - get this - amazing Mexican food at El Toluco Tqqueria & Grocery. We ended the evening with Zane's soccer game and then Austin Powers Goldmember in honor of Verne Troyer. We wrapped-it all up the next day with amazing BBQ at Sugarfire. It was a turnaround trip, but it was sure good to see John's new neck of the winds (ticks and hillbilly's notwithstanding)! Love these boys and glad we're keeping the backpacking tradition alive!
